Redefining the tiger
Visual Identity |Branding
Designing the Delhi Capitals jersey was not just about creating sportswear, it was about translating identity into performance. At the heart of the brief was a clear ambition: move beyond generic representations of Delhi and build a visual language rooted in boldness, energy and intent. The tiger, a long-standing symbol of the team, needed to evolve from a motif into a statement.
However, the canvas came with its own set of constraints. An IPL jersey functions as both a performance garment and a commercial asset. Sponsor visibility was non-negotiable, with multiple placements demanding visibility.
The palette itself posed a challenge: the design guidelines strictly required a dominant blue presence complemented by red accents. Balancing these specific color proportions while working around fixed elements like the collar, placket, and cuffs required precision. The room for expression was limited, but the expectation for impact was not.

This unique design challenge paved the way for our creative process. We explored 2 distinct creative directions, each rooted in a different interpretation of what Delhi Capitals could stand for on the field and beyond it.

The chosen route was rooted in Delhi’s identity, transforming the tiger into a bold visual language through amplified stripes that expressed aggression, movement and T20 intensity. Two expressions emerged: a refined tiger texture symbolising control, legacy and premium performance and a bold claw-stripe version built for stadium impact. In parallel, an alternate route drew from the geometry of Arun Jaitley Stadium, creating a structured pattern system that reflected Delhi’s pride, memory and home-ground legacy.
The final design leaned into a primal visual energy that gave the tiger-led direction a fierce sense of presence. This shift brought a boldness and intensity to the kit that aligns perfectly with the raw, high-stakes nature of the sport.
The jersey was crafted not only for the players on the field, but for the millions watching beyond it. Every element was optimized for broadcast, ensuring the print holds its intensity under stadium lights and on screen. At the same time, it was designed to live beyond match days. The goal was to create something fans would wear as identity, not just merchandise.

At Madarth, the process was about navigating limitations without diluting intent. The result is a jersey that balances commerce with character, function with form and above all transforms a symbol into a bold and enduring visual identity.

The redesign sparked an immediate wave of energy across the IPL community. Fans and critics alike praised the "Tiger-first" approach, capturing the aggressive spirit of the current squad.
Social media sentiment surged, with supporters highlighting the jersey's premium feel and its ability to stand out in a crowded field of blue-toned kits.
